Vasaloppet 2020
ILLUSTRATION | 2019
With over 60 000 participants, Vasaloppet is the greatest ski race in the world. People ski 90 km through the woods of Dalarna County in tribute to Sweden’s land father, King Gustav Vasa, who (legend says) skied the same distance back in the 16th century in order to save the country from the Danes.
Every year Craft Sportswear, along with the Vasaloppet Organisation and retail chain Stadium, produces a unique clothing line. As I got the honor to design the collection for the race 2020, I wanted to focus on the achievement rather than the finish line, because the journey is the destination!
Winning is great, but the journey to the finish line is so much more. Skiers spend hundreds of hours training for the race, and I want them to recognize their journey through the Dala woods in the illustrative clothing wear. Although Vasaloppet is getting closer to its 100 year anniversary, its more popular and modern than ever – I wanted that to show in this years collection. With its flat illustration and geometric shapes, I hope it speaks not only to the young who’s up for its first race, but also the ones who cross the finish line in Mora for the 48th time.
